Supreme Crt. Verdict: Sha'aban thanks supporters
posted on 5th November, 2010

Hon. Sani Mohammed Sha'aban, CPC, Kaduna State
Hon. Sani Mohammed Sha'aban
Following the dismissal of his appeal into the 2007 Kaduna State gubernatorial elections dispute by the Supreme Court in Abuja on November 4th, 2010, Sha'aban has released a statement thanking his numerous supporters, the entire people of Kaduna State and all Nigerians.

Sha'aban thanked them for their unwavering support and standing by him through this enduring legal process of fighting for the sustenance of our democracy.

While expressing disappointment over the decision of the apex court, Sha'aban is looking forward towards 2011 positively.

In a statement posted on his Facebook fan page, Sha'aban goes on to say:

I wish to thank my supporters, the entire people of Kaduna State and all Nigerians that have taken an active interest in this protracted legal battle for justice that I embarked upon since the 2007 Kaduna gubernatorial elections.

It is rather ironic that, the same Supreme Court that has taken keen interest in the Sokoto gubernatorial elections issue dismissed the Kaduna State guber challenge on the pretext that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain governorship petitions.

I believe in justice, the power of the people and above all, the will of the Almighty. Come 2011, the people of Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole will once again have the opportunity to make their voices heard. I am looking forward to 2011 with hope in the belief that, the people of Kaduna State will be the true judges and will pass a decisive verdict through the ballot box.

As you are aware, I have already declared my intention to contest the governorship on the platform of CPC. Please join me as we start on this journey towards 2011 for a better Kaduna State and Nigeria.

Earlier on and shortly after the verdict was delivered, Sha'aban addressed members of the press in Abuja. Responding to questions posed, Sha'aban reached out to his supporters, advising them not to feel discouraged as a result of the unfavourable decision from the Supreme Court, but rather, to see it as a motivation, a reason to mobilize en masse and support him and the CPC to win Kaduna State and Nigeria in 2011.

In Sha'aban's words, "since we mounted this challenge to reclaim the mandate that was stolen from us in 2007, the courts at all levels have used one technicality or the other to deny us victory. It is unfortunate and indeed a sad day for Nigeria's democracy that the apex court has not only encored that regrettable injustice, but implicitly, have endorsed the subsisting of what can be described as monumental legal and constitutional breaches inherent in the Appeal Court ruling that we sought to overturn."
